Snippet Saturday – Hot Spot!

This week’s Snippet Saturday theme is hot spots. One of the places I would love to go on vacation is the island of Ibiza in the Mediterranean. It’s one of the ports of call for the cruise ship carrying our hero and heroine as they attempt to catch a killer. After a night of passion with her lover, undercover agent, Chrysalyn Geyer, heads into Ibiza to blow off some steam with her two spirit guides, Adonei and Mahpiya. Can we say, bad ass African lions, boys and girls?

“Ibiza and Formentera have been a popular destination for visitors from overseas for thousands of years, but unfortunately it is only during the last few decades that these frequent visitors have brought money with them on their visits to the islands.”

Hardy har har. Chrys winced at the dry humor.

‘I am bored out of my head. I think I’ll go off on my own,’ Chrys whispered along her link with her lions. Strange how Mahpiya occupied the same space now, yet the feline was separate and apart from her awareness of Adonei. Almost like they had their own special connection without excluding “the guys”.

*Chrysalyn, it is not wise to venture off alone,* the lioness said firmly.

Apprehension snaked through the link and Chrys felt compelled to listen to the big cat and do exactly as she suggested. She pushed the strange feelings away.

‘I’ve got two bad-assed African lions with me. What do I possibly have to be afraid of?’

The uneasiness of the previous moment surged into full-blown protective instinct. Mahpiya was concerned for her. But why?

‘May I call you Mah, like Rahn does?’ she asked respectfully.

*Of course.*

‘Thank you. Now, Mah, what’s going on? I can feel you’re on full hunter alert. And shouldn’t one of you be with Rahn?’

Neither lion said a word for what felt like eons. Their postures seemed easy enough, but tension wrapped around the bond like a tangible thing. They were hiding something. But if Mahpiya was anything like Adonei, no amount of harping in the world would get her to spill.

Sigh. Well, perhaps she’d try anyway. Even picking away at the patience of a spirit guide had to be less boring than this stupid tour she’d signed up for.

‘Well, since neither of you are telling, I guess I’ll drop it.’ For now. ‘Meanwhile, let’s go into the heart of town and explore. Maybe get some lunch.’ Chrys didn’t wait for them to answer or give permission. With a farewell wave to an older couple she’d met while debarking off the ship, she turned and left the droning tour guide and the group of tourists behind her.

Down the road was a row of modern restaurants and shops, all top-notch according to her research. There was one that specialized in rare gifts. Oooh, and they carried Dominican Republic hand-rolled cigars. Wow. Would Rahn enjoy something like this? He’d never smoked in her presence, but a man of such impeccable taste might appreciate a seasoned mild cigar. For her, there was nothing better than a Tatiana groovy-flavored smoke with an after-dinner dessert. Or the coffee-flavored smoke of a Kahlua cigar mixed with the cool smoothness of a cream-laced beverage. Yum.

With her purchases tucked into her day bag, Chrys walked up a hill, turned down a quiet street and settled for a small mom-and-pop cafe for lunch. Suppressing laughter at Mah and Adonei’s antics, she stepped through the door and was immediately shown to a table out back with a clear view of the sea’s crystal blue waters off in the distance.

The food was fabulous. She’d never been a big fan of Mediterranean food, but this stuff was wonderful. With every kind of cuisine under the sun to choose from, perhaps the French five-star restaurant down the street would get a visit before she headed back to the ship later. After all, Ibiza was no backwater island, but a place where the young and chic came to vacation.

Her companions were quite a pair. The faint image of the two lions grooming each other lovingly as she sipped a cup of espresso produced an inward smile. Then the next instant, Mah swatted at Adonei’s head after he’d said something so totally male even Chrys grimaced. The lioness was quick-witted and even quicker with her claws. And, of course, Chrys had to throw in her two cents, usually on Mah’s side. Soon Adonei was mumbling about catty women who were too smart for their own good, and perhaps he would go and keep Rahn company after all. Chrys bit the inside of her cheek and tried to keep her mirth under wraps—not smart to have the locals thinking she’d gone bonkers by laughing at someone they couldn’t see.

After lunch, she stepped out into the bright afternoon sunshine. The sun was dazzling, shining off the many white stone churches common in every town on the island.

Then the hairs on the back of her neck hit orbit, standing on end as the bottom fell out of her stomach. Someone was watching her.

Snippet Saturday – Water

This week’s Snippet Saturday theme is water. I love water. In fact, believe it or not, I love things like scuba diving and wading in the surf…even if I can’t swim! It is true that I have scuba dived down to about 65 ft underwater in the Caribbean and loved every minute of it.

Today’s Snippet features our favorite water elemental, De’Alla Isaacs, practicing her very special gift while a very very bad guy looks on.

Enjoy this snippet from Shards of Ecstasy then be sure to visit all our awesome Snippet Saturday authors via the links at the bottom of the post. Have a fabulous weekend. And if it’s hot where you are, get wet!

Any elemental was a rare prize, but a water elemental was especially coveted. And this one carried a piece of the Hearts of Fire on top of all that? Hell, Asmodeus had hit the mother lode. Yee-fuckin’-haw!

And now, tonight, on a deserted stretch of beach tucked into a small bit of a cove, the Chosen worked out with her ability. She practiced pulling water from the very air around her, forming small marbles of water with ease. Then she erected a thin wall of water a short distance away and used the water marbles to punch holes in it. The energy and concentration it took to work with the elements was considerable. It also spoke of someone directly descended from the Ancients.

Most he’d run across were distantly related, had little to no skill with manipulating nature and were selected because of their destiny even if they’d had no Atlantean blood whatsoever. But this elemental was more than Chosen. She was an Atlantean, no matter how far removed. That would explain the entity he’d sensed around her, all Atlanteans had a protector, a guide that carried the essence of nature itself, so to speak.

And she was strong, this one. But Asmodeus sensed an inherent weakness, a weakness that could only be shored up by her joining with her true mate—that was something he’d learned in his last encounter with a Chosen. He wondered if De’alla had met him yet. And if so had she sprung the news of her destiny on the poor sap? Did he believe her or think she was crazy? Crazy would definitely serve Asmodeus’ purposes better.

Hmmm, could that singer guy who’d feasted between her legs be De’alla Isaacs’ mate? She hadn’t acted like it. And there’d certainly been no output of blistering crystal power when the man had gone down on her like there’d been when Dee’s sister had made love to her mate.

Asmodeus’ temper spiked. “Shit, why don’t I know more about this Chosen business?” He’d been alive for as long as time was time yet those fucking Atlanteans had managed to keep these damn sisters a secret for thousands of years. The Hearts of Fire, oh he knew about that all right. That’s what had set him on this journey in the first place. It was the one thing that contained enough life energy to give him a flesh and blood body that held the power of a demon. Yet the details of getting his hands on that little jewel had eluded him until a mere three hundred years ago. Unfortunately for an immortal time had no relevance…and that three centuries had been spent looking for eight human females who hadn’t been born until barely forty years ago, goddammit.

And Asmodeus didn’t even want to think about the fact that the eight women he thought he needed turned out to be four women and their destined mates.

His encounter with Dee’s sister, Memory, hadn’t gone the way he’d planned. Actually he hadn’t truly planned anything, just figured the woman was a human he could walk in and simply overpower. It had been more than a surprise to encounter such raw power when he’d attempted to relieve Memory of her crystal. Then her fucking mate came to help her and the two of them together had been more than he expected. He still didn’t consider any Chosen to be more powerful than himself, but this time he would at least do a bit of surveillance.

Just then, De’alla sat down in the sand and lifted her head to the sky. Suddenly all was entirely too quiet. It was already still due to the fact that it was three in the morning and nobody was around, but this was an uncommon still. Suddenly the sky opened directly over De’alla and her body was covered completely by a singular deluge. The roar of the water was as loud as crashing waves in the midst of a storm.

Her body should have been smashed, torn to pieces by the force of the water. Instead, De’alla opened a small “door” in the middle of her personal waterfall and walked out of it, leaving it to rip up the sand in her wake. Then she just left. Walked away.

With a twinkle in her eye that even Asmodeus could see in this light with this failing human body, De’alla gave a flick of her wrist and the waterfall plummeted to the sand and rolled back out into the Sound with the next retreating wave.

“Impressive.”

Where in the world is TJ?

I’m in Switzerland working! I don’t usually get to wander around much when I’m traveling for work. I finished up early yesterday afternoon so I went for a walk around the square in Basel. It was absolutely beautiful (I’ll post pictures when I get home), sunny and easy to get around.

Tonight I’m going to dinner at a close by restaurant in the expedition square that I can’t even begin to pronounce, and I’m really looking forward to it. The word is that this place requires a reservation no matter what day you plan to go. Surprisingly enough, it’s also supposed to be affordable, which will be a welcome change. Why? ‘CAUSE SWITZERLAND IS DANGED EXPENSIVE!

Good lord, everything here is ridiculously high. My hotel room, probably worth about $700 (nice room but nothing special, no tea/coffee maker, a small deck and TV and that’s about all) is costing me $1300 instead. Gah! And believe it or not, I paid $19 CHF (Swiss Franks), which translates to about $21.75 USD, for a gyro, a falafel and a soda pop! Oh, and the five minute ride from the airport? Well, that was $42 CHF, or $48 USD.

According to the locals, this is normal even when the dollar is rallying high. It’s just expensive to live in Europe, period. Gas usually runs about $2 per liter…that about $8 per gallon on a good day. The folks here believe it’s because of the taxes and the ‘free’ government subsidized programs which aren’t free at all, but paid for through more taxes. The scenery is awesome…but I can’t wait to go home to $4.00 gas!

Okay, rant over ;D Tomorrow I’m off to France for the weekend before I head to the next customer site on Monday. When I get an internet connection I’ll be sure and tell you what I see, and I promise it won’t be a rant. Ooh la la!

Oh, someone asked me about the time difference between here and where I live on the West Coast of the U.S. Switzerland is 9 hours ahead, so it’s almost 1pm here on Friday afternoon, and almost 4am at home.

Catch you all later!
